p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Kat in the park

I wanted to shoot a late evening session just before and after full sunset. Kat was up for the little shot that I wanted to take -- however she decided that we should also do a bit of a fashionista element as well. We wandered into the park about 7pm and quit shooting about 9pm.

At 7pm, the lighting was terrible - with sunlight creating strong shadow patterns coming through the leaves of the trees. We had to avoid this and tried to find spots in the proper shade. By 8:15, the sun finally set.

Here are some of the images, in order shot, of the things we did in the evening. These are all at high ISO since the evening light was very low. For some reason, I almost never like to noise reduction - just a personal predilection.....

The first two shots were with some of her normal wardrobe - which I really liked.

Kat, the day before the shoot, decided to make a different wardrobe for the "evening look". She spent a couple of hours to make a black cape and a fuschia dress from some bulk fabric. Here are a couple of shots with her creation: The light was quickly vanishing.

By 8:15, the sun was set, however there was a bit of sky light that influenced the background. The principle light was a single street light in the park (the other lamps normally turned on, were damaged in the Calgary flood in July and have not yet been repaired).

For this wardrobe, I happen to have a white slip from an old wedding dress and a piece of white fabric - Kat quickly made the combination onto a gown - and it seemed appropriate.

Of course, the light is VERY LOW. The Canon 5D-III had great difficulty with auto focus.

I grabbed my Leica M9 with a 50mm F1 Noctilux and shot this hand held wide open. Wish there was just a BIT more light I also shot the scene with the Canon - much better noise performance - however I liked this better.

Is she wearing a wig? wth happened to her hair in that 1st one? The 2nd one is an optical illusion..it looks like she is floating on that OOF round thing in the foreground. Nice colors in that one as well. I really like #5 as well.

She is wearing a wig in the last two shots. I guess her hair had it's own idea of how it should lay in the first. It was a fun shoot --

#5 is the best in the set by a long shot... The others don't really do anything for me, but #5 is great.

2 and 5 are my favorites. She is a very good looking lady; seems fun to shoot with. Great presence and likes the lens.
Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed them

@Josh: thanks Josh, #5 is certainly the strongest - by far.

@Jackal: She is certainly most fun to shoot with - versatile with wardrobe and is a delight to be with.

5 & 6 are my favs. It's nice to see someone having fun, pushing boundaries, dancing on the technical edge.

I like #5 very much and 6 gets a nod for trying something different (something I should do more often). The others all have some room for improvement, whether it be correcting a awkward pose, expression or comp issues.
