p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · The Land of the Golden Mist

It actually is clouds, but when one is up in the clouds, they no longer feel like clouds as they envelope you, but they do take on a mist like quality.

These both are a few more from a month ago up at Mt Rainier NP. I was racing the clouds in these shots, I could see where the clouds wanted to cover and hide Mt Rainier from view, so I was racing it up the trails at Paradise trying to beat them. Just short of where I wanted to shoot from, a location I had picked out earlier in the day, as the clouds rose higher and the sun set lower, the clouds began to turn gold. The whole area was bathed in this beautiful light.

I didn't want to chance losing that golden light to continue on up to my picked out location, even though it was only a few hundred yards more up the trail, I stopped in my tracks and found a composition with a nice pathway through the wildflowers. I took a few shots here, then moved up another 50 feet or so to another composition with flowers in the foreground. And almost as quickly as it came, the golden mist disappeared... it lasted 3, maybe 4 minutes max. I am glad I was there.

Both are here, and all comments are welcome.

Jim

Jim,
Sweet (or as you would say, cool)
I think #1 gets the nod for foreground, especially the path.
Yes, clouds picking up the colors is nice

Both have excellent color, but I like the foreground better in the first image!

Timing is everything.

Jim, these are super beautiful, with classical combination of blue and gold. Cannot pick favorite, love leading line of the trail in #1, and colorful splash of flowers and fire-like effect in #2.

Very cool, Jim. The second one in particular sure conveys that "end of the day in the mountains" feel. On my (non-calibrated) work monitor, the greens look a little intense, but that may be attributable to differences in displays.

What a couple of beautiful images you have here Jim. Both are stunning, but for me the second one just explodes color! Great Job and thank you for sharing.

+1, for me too, Jim. Very fine image, in all respects.

Jim, these are both great. For your sake, I wish you'd had the golden mist of the second shot to perfect the very nice order, with the path leading the eye to the payoff, of the first.

#1 Jim. For the depth helped by the path, sweet golden light and better depth through detail. Nice catch.

I agree with the crowd on #1. The cloud/fog is nice in #2, but the #1 foreground wins it for me. The trail really works, and I miss it in #2.

Both are nice. Somehow, on my monitor, the colors appear very saturated and the images too sharp.

I like the lighting. It seems the details are lost in the fields though

That's pretty awesome, I like them both. Was the saturation that high when you were at that location? The location is a beautiful one.... Great images.

Love the top halfs of both images, but the colors look a bit off on my calibrated monitors. The greens look too green. Nice captures.

I like the lighting, the flowers, and the path. I think I prefer #1 slightly.

Both are excellent images!

Hey Dave,

I am glad you liked the shots, I appreciate that. As far the greens go, it's probably not your uncalibrated monitor, it's simply I liked the colors popping a bit.
