Here is my second submission in my Arizona Lightning series. I was on a 18-day photo shoot in southeastern Arizona during the month of July to photograph the amazing monsoon thunderstorms against various sky islands that make up the southeastern Arizona landscape. This particular moment was special. The light at sunset was something I couldn't explain. It turned the entire landscape into something other-worldly. I was fortunate enough to capture some cloud-to-ground lightning flashes to complete some of these scenes. Here are a few of my favorite images from this moment -- all shot from the same location over the course of about 15 minutes south of the town of San Simon, Arizona. As you can see in the EXIF data, I was working three Nikon cameras with the Holy Trinity. -Mike U

Hey Mike,

Those are such an amazing sight! #3 and 4 are my favorites and really stand out. The clouds balance well and the lightning is just super sweet. Way to go here.

Having 3 cameras going is a good way to make sure you could catch some lighning in a bottle... I mean a camera...

Wow, those are really good. Great lightning captures and the scene does look bizarre as you mentioned. Well done.

Wow!

Sometimes taken for granted but that "desert light" can be phenomenal.

Hi Jim, I really appreciate your comments. Thanks for the picks, too. Yep totally agree with last statement. I added the 70-200mm f/2.8 just before my trip to complete the Holy Trinity. Love that glass. -Mike

It really is amazing how the landscape changes in the right, perfect light with dramatic clouds bouncing the light everywhere. Thanks also for the processing compliment. In all honestly, not much to do in LR+PS with this kinda light. Thanks again! -Mike

Yes, I had one on top of two cameras. Extremely difficult to capture these scenes with this much ambient light without them. A lot of misses still, even with the triggers, but all you need is one good frame! Although in this case, I got a couple of them
