Medano Creek run out of the east side of the mountains and along the sandy edge of the Great Sand Dunes, eventually just disappearing in the sand. During snowmelt it gets past the dunes and out into the San Luis valley, eventually resurfacing in wetlands that feed the Rio Grande. But by late June when I was there it disappeared just a few hundred years from where these were taken. The braided rivulets are constantly changing, even while you watch.
There were a blend of raws with different white balance one to preserve the warm morning light on the sand, and another for the blue reflections and sky.

Hey Dave,
What cool shots here, I love the foreground in all of these, the ripples in the sand creek bed are really sweet. #1 is my favorite of the group here. I also like you mentioning about using different raw conversions for the different WB's that the eye so easily makes out, and yet our cameras are so limited in. It's a technique I use too when needed, hopefully some that don't do that, this can give them a little spark of creativity in their own processing.

Thanks, Sunny and Jim. I'm glad you like the dual processing. I don't do it much any more because I usually have multiple exposures, but in this case I didn't want to sacrifice either the warm light on the sand nor the blue reflections, and it would have been too much to ask of the adjustments on Photoshop. The blending was a little tricky since different parts of the scene worked better with different color emphasis, but it seems to have worked out.

Thanks, Steve, I appreciate it. Every 10 feet I moved up the sandy creek bed I found more interesting patterns. If I hadn't broken away I would have missed the dunes themselves.
