A little over a week ago, I climbed Mount Whitney via the main trail. My wife and I camped at Trail Camp at 12,000ft and had a beautiful (albeit cold) night up there. This photo is a single exposure just as the moon was rising behind me -- it was enough light to illuminate the steep east face of Whitney, but not so much as to wash out the sky. This photo will always remind me of the cold, clear air that night (and the headache I was struggling with because of the altitude!).
Although it's not easily picked out among the stars, you can see the Big Dipper above the mountain (with the "dipper" going down into the V-shaped notch in the skyline), and what I think is maybe a meteor about 1/3rd from the left of the frame.
