I have a few photos to share. I've been processing everything I have backlogged and I'm all over the place with locations.
*edit* Knocked the highlights down in #2 and changed 4 all together. A little bit tighter and cleaner crop.
This is from our last morning staying at the Tetons before making our break to Capitol Reef. It was nice going from 30 degrees and freezing my butt of this morning, to 90 degrees and sunny in one day of driving.
After leaving White Sands, we stayed in Las Cruces for a couple days and I tried to get a decent shot of the Organ Mountains. I struck out both mornings and both evenings with heavy cloud cover but managed to get some light on the range one late afternoon.
I've already posted a photo a while back from the well at Cape Perpetua but I've been going through shots from the following day when I was there closer to sunset and liked how this one turned out. Such a fun (scary) place to photograph.
The last shot is from Valley of Fire. This is the small arch located right off of the small scenic drive near the campgrounds. I'm not too sure of the formal name but I dubbed it Heart Arch. Almost struck out with clouds again but luckily they broke in time to still backlight the formation.
Really cool shots here. You have some very artistic work. #1 is one of those really rare times that an out of focus foreground works in a shot, but for me, it certainly works! With #2, I like the look you were going for here, but I would still pull back on the highlights on the mountains just a little bit more. #3, you sure nailed Thors Well there. That is a fantastic sunset, you worked the sun really nicely here, and the water in the well looks great. #4 at VoF you worked the light again very well here. Perhaps pulling back just a bit more on the highlights on this one too.
Thanks for the words of wisdom Jim. I'll see what I can do with the highlights. 2 will be easy but I was struggling with 4. I like the sky a little brighter but the light on the foreground rocks are proving a bit tricky to recover.
Thanks for the feedback Stan. The OoF grass in 1 was a choice I made in post. The Raw files have the grass on focus. I thought it would have been destracting so I blurred it. I might give it another look and see how I like it. I agree with you about 2 also, it was just fun to process Thanks again.
Nice set. To me #1 seems slightly off in the sky (you have a couple of dust bunnies as well) - maybe its the white balance? Love the lighting in #2, everything in #3 and for #4 it seems too long - and I think the composition of the rocks flow nicely if chopped off at the bottom to either an 8x10 or 8x12 comp.
Dave
Thanks David, I noticed the dust bunnies last night. My 1dsII needs a serious sensor cleaning Is the sky too yellow? I was having a tough time getting it right.
2nd and 4th are spectacular. I hope you get these printed large...like LAAARGE!
P.S. not a fan of that orton type processing of the grass in the first one. the highlights on the grass draw too much attention away from the beauty in the back.
