The last glow of a long sunset light show recently at Bryce park. It was one stormy, cloudy parade through the sky and finally it pinked up for a few minutes before going all gray and heading towards dark. A story with a good ending for a change.

Hey Jeffrey,

Those are some really cool looking clouds you got there. I do like this shot, and I cringe at the idea of loosing any of those colorful clouds, but I would be tempted to lose half the sky. And since I have ideas fresh on my mind, a vertical crop centered in this composition I think could be sweet too. That would allow those staggered to layer of clouds really lead the eye...

Just a couple of thoughts...

Jim, it's always good to see people here discuss the merits of cropping. I remind folks periodically that cropping is your most powerful compositional tool. Some don't know what I'm talking about, others are adamant about 'cropping in camera (whatever that actually means?!) and limiting their creativity to just one aspect ratio for every image, and some people learn about it. Obviously, I already cropped from a sensor aspect ratio, but I thought about the things you said. I may take a bit more off the top. I'll be sure to email you whatever pretty clouds I snip!

Interesting read by Jim. I looked and thought the opposite, I feel the image is split too centrally and would like to see less foreground and more emphasis to the sky. The foreground is dominant in sharpness and texture and for me overpowers the softness quality of color and light that the sky offers and how nicely it ties into the mountains at the horizon. I could see 1/3 less in the foreground on this one......................
So it looks like you have 3 images here, as posted, as suggested by Jim and a possible third

At any rate you have a lot of goodness to work with..........a very nice image Jeffrey

Jeffery, fantastic image! The colors almost need to be desaturated a bit, but what we see is probably pretty close to how it looked. If this was my image, I would crop out about a half of the sky, like Jim suggested. Almost seems like a shame to do this, but I think the resulting composition is stronger (more dynamic).

Hmm, controversies cropping up

I think the existing "crop" is the best for the elements.
The darker clouds at the top re-enforces the stormy feel.
Nice image, gentle colors are pleasing.
