Awesome! Congrats Jess. So were you working with that headline as your creative brief? Or did the text come in response to your images?

They based the cover off of the photos. The direction they originally gave me was quite different. I did this setup on my own and they ended up going with it instead of what they asked for.

Congrats and nice shot........The other thing that comes to mind is,If that were not from billboard magazine and that was not a famous person you would be bombarded by armchair quarterbacks telling you 1) You need to soften up the area under the chin 2) eyes are too dark 3) both shoulders should be in frame.......etc. My 2 cents...
Congrats on the shot. You do alot of these? What gear were you using for this particular set-up?

Congrats on the shot. You do alot of these? What gear were you using for this particular set-up?

I shot this in front of a white backdrop with a Profoto D1 Air 500 head through an octabox.

Congrats on the cover! That's awesome.

I hope this doesn't thwart the thread, but the armchair QBs are only trying to help the photog see how THEY would have shot the shot, based on their style. Any one of us would have shot this differently. But only one of us got the call, and got the cover on Billboard Mag.

Your missing my point....i think

I like the shot regardless because of the emotion he captured. I do feel if it was joe schmo photographer with a shot from his living room, people would have pounced. IMHO.....and yes i do not want to derail the thread from talking about a great shot that made the cover of a famous mag.
