Thank you for your thoughts, Douglas and JB.
JB, this is always how I post FM images. I view them in Firefox; it has not occurred to me that other browsers might display them differently. How could you tell what color space I used?
Now, about the tones:
The first image below is a screen capture of the image as it came out of the camera. The light was not great, so I obviously did some serious work on the eye area. Does the chin remain (relatively) too dark?
I have been influenced by Vincent Versaci's book, "Welcome to Oz 2.0". A huge amount of space is given to post processing of an woman's image. I have probably broken some law by scanning these - please don't call the cops. Versaci's lighting equipment went MIA, so he made the first image in flat light. He then spent an excruciating amount of effort in PP to achieve the final result. He managed to imply a shaft of light falling across the subject's eye area. Now this is a bit over-the-top for my taste, but I am impressed at the accentuation of the eyes.I have been trying to achieve this in a more subtle manor. Probably unsuccessfully.

A simple drag and drop then open it in PS told me that it was a grey scale image with no profile. If I view the same web page in Safari and FireFox, the images look different. This is due to the browser trying to display an sRGB profile when one doesn't exist and some browsers are better an interpretation than others. I always find the safest way to preserve what I see and what others will see is to convert to sRGB before posting, all browsers recognize this profile.
As to the Versaci image, what works for his image is the background is also given the same illumination treatment so although extreme it looks natural, like a shaft of sunlight. Without the background, it would look out of context IMO.
You did a good job of pulling out some detail in a very flat image, I just think including her chin and a soft transition would be more appealing.
