This was taken while touring Catalina Island. My attempt at emulating some of the greats on this forum.

Nice Kam. I lived on Catalina once upon a time, so it's always good to see something from there. I like the crop and the model, but this almost seems like a composite due to there not being any real whites on her, but plenty of blown out areas behind her. I realize she's in open shade, but there is a bit of a visual disconnect for me (take all this with a grain of salt as I'm an amateur and looking at this on my phone).

You are right, it does look very much like a composite. Thank you qwyjibo (Dave?) for taking the time to view and comment, much appreciated.

A viewer's eyes are generally driven to the hottest areas on the picture, and that means they're going anywhere but to your subject. While you got nice lighting on her in the shade, you always have to consider how your background is going to impact the shot.

And yet! This really is rather stunning shot, given her expression and her placement in the bright background. We do afterall photograph people in front of white backgrounds. Maybe brighten the catchlights in her eyes and maybe a little vignetting of the background. Beautiful model.

Nice capture, although it seems like the trees to the left would be a more visually pleasing background than the doors to the right (debatable of course). I am left wondering what a shift in perspective might have done for this composition?

Kam-
I'm strictly a documentary shooter, and that's partly why I looked at this excellent image of a beautiful woman and paid no attention to all the whiteness of the background.
To me all the surrounding stuff is just stuff- with no significance whatever.

I agree with Charlie, I find I'm looking at her much more than the bright background.

She really stands out to me.

The whiteness of the background isn't a problem for me as much as the patterned light and dark in the shops to the right. Our eye is drawn to contrast, which is why that is distracting and is why she stands out as the smooth evenness of the tones on her are completely different from the background, When I cover the shop doors, her face leaps out and is striking. At first I was looking for more contrast in her face, perhaps a bit of shadow, but as I looked longer, I found myself enjoying the soft subtle tones which accent her expression and features.

Thank you all for commenting. I really appreciate your valuable feedback.
Initially when I chose to place the subject in the scene as I did, I wanted to see if I can incorporate lines into the picture. And so my intention was to use the lines of the building to guide the viewer's attention back to the subject even though the buildings are of course the background. This proved to be a more distracting element to some. Perhaps this crop would be more effective.

Thanks,

Kam
