We went for an extended weekend trip to Orcas Island north of Seattle. Weather went from raining/fog and chilly to blue sky and hot. Below are a few rain forest and beach sunset pictures from last Saturday.

Hey Heinz,

#2 is my favorite, followed by #1. You really nailed those waterfall shots. Orcas Island had just caught my eye yesterday as I was looking over the ferry schedule. I am up for a few days to shoot Mt Rainier, but I love riding on the ferries, and the one to Orcas Is sounded interesting. How hidden are those waterfalls?

The 1st and last are my favorites. I love the raw beauty captured in the 1st shot. Exposure is just right to show details in the water. The last shot is just a wonderful play with light. Well done abstract.

Don't like to pick favorites, but the once powerful fallen tree in relation to life of the water fall in #2 really strikes me. I also like the serenty of the last one.

Jim,

Orcas is definitely worth a trip, the wait for the ferry can be pretty long though in July/August (we had to wait for 3 hours). These are the Cascade Creek waterfalls in Moran State Park (http://www.parks.wa.gov/publications/parks/Moran%20State%20Park%20Brochure.pdf). The hike is about 10 minutes and about 200 feet up/down. Getting close to the main waterfall (#1) takes a little bit of climbing along the steep creek walls, but not too bad. You end up on a flat-top log laying over the river bed right in front of the waterfall. You will need the Discovery Pass to park the car which you can get right at the entrance to the Park.

Huge fan of "seascapes". Really like 3 and 5. The last one has great tones and to me is the best of the group and different than the run of the mill slow shutter waterfall. Photography is about light, color, and composition and that image has all of those components. Thanks for posting

how accessible are boat rides to view the whales? I see that you don't have any pictures of the Orcas, wondering if that is a hit and miss? I was thinking of a trip to the Orcas Is in late JUNE.
