From just north of the harbor.
As beautiful as the central California coast is, I've found good sunsets to be scarce.
But when they appear, they can be lovely.
I agree Charlie. They are nice when they appear, such as the one you captured, but I always hear people talk about how great California sunsets are. I've lived in SoCal almost my entire life and they do seem scarce to me. Either it's complete sunshine, or the marine layer blows in. Definitely frustrating sometimes. Arizona, Utah, and the rest of the southwest, however, is a completely different story for me.
Sunsets here in SoCal are often spectacular in Dec - Feb and also right about now when the "monsoonal flow" brings moist tropical air with roiling cloud formations up from the Pacific southwest.
Oftentimes viewers who have not seen these sunsets for themselves cry, "Photoshop!" They turn into believers, though, after seeing one in the flesh.
Thanks, guys.
Although I was raised in SoCal, I left about 40 years ago because it was getting too crowded .
About as far south as I can bring myself to go since then is Morro Bay (unless the population has decreased .
Thanks Chaz- for mentioning the sometimes saturated colors that can be along the coast at sunset.
That's what caused these rich colors- although I DID use Kodak film, and it loves reds.
