Some flying critters from June on the Central Oregon Coast. The lighthouse has to be one of the most photographed lighthouses in the US so it is really difficult to get a fresh shot of it. We have been to this overlook too many times to count but this time something different was going on, 3 or 4 Gray Whales were passing by and in really close. I have some full framers of them I'll post another time, for now I included a wide shot of them with the lighthouse. The Cormies are from Yaquina Head in a rip roaring wind, there were times I could hardly stand up with the 800 the wind was so strong but that's how it is there on gorgeous sunny days! Heck, it's like that there in the rain too, who am I kidding!? (been there, know that)

1 Pigeon Guillemot coming in

2 Guillemot banking in a mating display. Their burrows are in the bluff in the bg.

3 Double Crested Cormorant going into the wind, easy pickings!

4 Pelagic Cormorant heading downwind, easily 60 mph land speed, I missed a LOT of these LOL

5 Haceta Head Lighthouse, gray whales spouting lower left

The lighthouse certainly is iconic. Excellent shooting Tim. Love the downwind Pelagic C. !

Beautiful details of the IF shots Tim. #4 is certainly not easy to properly expose and you did well as usual. #1 and 2 are my top picks. I would have missed the whale had you not mentioned it. Cool.

Tim, those Pigeon Guillemots are really engaging when IF, and these images engage! I think you need an anemometer readout attached to the exif, because I can't tell which cormie is going upwind, and which down. But I think I missed an earlier post of the pelagic cormies; that's a really striking bird (beautifully captured). ~Greg

shot #1 is great, they are very funny looking in the air. i tried and tried to get this same shot of a puffin in newfoundland with no luck. you did well on this guy. so cool to see whales so close it, we don't get that here on the east coast.

Very nice shots of very fast birds...I never could get an in flight of the PGs. Its neat we have a pod of Gray Whales to see all summer...the only ones that don't go to the Bering sea.

Great technique in that wind tunnel bro! Don't know how you got the downwind shot, hats off on that Sir

The lighthouse shot by itself is a stunner but to get two gray's breaching in the foreground puts it way over the top of the crop!

It is a gorgeous drive down that highway Tim, with Haceta Head always causing me to be looking back over my shoulder as I'm headed south. Iconic is an understatement. Super bird shots. The guillemots have me salivating. Super images. Cormies are real nice too.
