p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Wallowas in Oregon

Hello all. Just got back from a 3 night backpacking trip in the Wallowas, eagle cap, lakes basin, little Switzerland area in Oregon. Had a fantastic trip. Great weather for backpacking but only good clouds for photography on one night. Certain areas such as mirror lake were crowded but other nights we were the only people camped in our lake side spots. I have more posted in a folder on my website if anyone is interested in the area. I can't recommend it enough for photography. Everywhere you look there are interesting compositions. Hope you enjoy thanks for looking and C and C welcome.

Mirror lake (living up to its name) with eagle cap at sunset.

Mirror lake again at sunrise

This is Glacier lake (it also lived up to its name). Sometime in the middle of the night with about a half moon lighting the sky.

Glacier lake at sunrise. The wildflowers were not quite peaking yet. The guide books all describe crazy amounts of flowers but for the most part they were pretty subdued

Nice photos. The third one is great! I like the first two as well, but that last one isn't doing much for me. Nice work!

Hey Brian,

Sweet shots here! I do need to make it up there sometime for some backpacking. #1 and 3 are my favorites, they really look good. Your watermark is a bit big though, you might consider something smaller, and maybe a little more opaque.

Thanks for the kind words. I think it was my favorite backpacking trip I have had so far.
I need to work on the watermark. I just did it quickly when I started the website a couple years ago and I haven't touched it since. It is officially on my to do list. Brian

Those are wonderful locations and your images really do them justice. You really did well in #3 to capture the cloud movement yet avoid such a long exposure that the stars trailed. I think that one's my favorite, followed closely by the Mirror Lake sunset.

One of my favorite backpacking locations, especially since all the best spots are too far for day-hikers. Did you hike up to the top of Eagle Cap? Don't know that I've ever seen great flowers on the actual shores of Glacier Lake, but there are some nice areas on the trail that descends from there.

I like the second and third the most. For me, the second in particular captures what it is like to be in the Lakes Basin on a summer morning.

1, with the single peak lit, and 3, with the cool light of the moon and streaking clouds, look great.

Thanks Dave. It was just dumb luck getting the clouds to streak that much. I couldn't really see them with my sleep deprived eyes they just magically appeared in the LCD. It was strange that there was virtually no breeze at ground level but the clouds were just flying by like that.

Khalil. Yes we did make it up from Mirror lake up to the top of eagle cap and then back down to mirror lake and off to glacier lake. It was the longest day of the trip. Over Glacier pass was very hot and we were all pretty tired and its one of those hikes that has a lot false summits to get your hopes up and then dashes them. It was of course totally worth it once we made it. Probably the nicest campsite I have ever had.
