p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Lower Sahalie Falls

Revisited Sahalie Falls yesterday and I am starting to get back in the groove of connecting with the wilderness. That energy you feel when you are someplace special.

Nice little spot not TOO hard to get to.

One of the more popular spots on the trail.

Ever since Thom Hogan posted an article challenging that someone told him "you cant take good pictures looking downstream". I always try to take a few shots as such when I have a good opportunity.

Next weekend.....Meteor Shower shots (if the clouds cooperate)

Jeez Roman, These are wonderful. Connect with what is there you did! I think you conveyed the energy you speak of. Thanks.

The processing on these is very interesting to me. I love the way the water looks! Are you doing this with special layers or something like Color Efex?

Feeling the energy. Like #2 but would have tried for a sharper foreground at the sacrifice of cropping trees in the background. Downstream shots are like animal/bird butt shots. Usually don't work but every once and awhile- magic.

very cool place, very nice shots, love at three!

(I might peak white a little more in the last one, you want stuff that would be brightess to peak strongly to make HDR look at least HDR as possible.)

the foreground is max sharp, part of it look blurry because it's actually under a bit of water not oof

Thanks all.

Steph - I cranked the ISO up a bit to get a faster shutter speed and used Color Efex Tonal Contrast and worked a bit harder on the highlight contrast to get that effect.

Skibum5 - No HDR used on these shots....just processed to maximize the action of the water instead of the silky effect.

psharvic - The blur in the foreground is shallow water over the effect....take a look at the boulder...it is pin sharp....(like skibum pointed out.)

Thanks everyone for the very kind comments. Much appreciated!

The feeling of depth in the second shot, from the boulder through the stream and up the opposite bank is just beautiful Roman.

I like all three a lot, but, the third just pulls me down that river. Excellent. It also makes wonder how you did the third one. Looks too fast for wading.

Thanks Ray!!

Chuck, I stood on a bit of shore the extended out into the waterway a bit and aimed down stream and zoomed out a bit. No wading...this water would have swept me away.
