These are simple portraits, one of my wife and two of my friend Katie. As always, your thoughts and comments are welcome.

Love the eyes in the first one. For me the teeth are a little hot and the razor thin DOF is for some reason pulling my focus to camera left of her face.

They are quite nice though regardless of my nits

They're spectacular. It's seems like a slight break from photography really let you focus on your portraits. So simple and perfectly executed. The first one, your wife, is spectacular. The lighting is sublime, and the look on her face is captivating. The last one of Katie would be better with a bit more smile, but all three are great. The lighting is great.

Hey Evan, I like #1.

For me #2 the posture/crop doesn't work for me, and in #3 I find the big front shoulder distracting/unflattering.

My .$02,
Sean

I like the chiaroscuro in #2, but the pose and comp feels weak to me.

The lighting in 1 is very nice. The subject comes across as confident but open at the same time. If that's who your wife is, then you have captured her well!

I like 3 as well, I wonder how it would look in black and white...?

Hey Evan,

Love this new portrait thing you've got going. You should rent out that room!

I'm really liking the softness in all your recent photos, you mentioned a painterly quality in the 85 wide open, and I completely agree. It works wonderfully with these (and I'd assume it may not be as wonderful on men).

The first in my favorite here, very strong, up front portrait. Solid composition. A bit brighter than I'd like but that's a personal preference.

The color on 2 and 3 is magnificent (I think I mentioned that before), and the pose and expressions are very "Mona Lisa" like. You get a hint of her personality, but just a hint. The composition though bugs me a bit, 2 seems a but unbalanced, with too much room on the right and not enough on the left, and 3 is a bit cramped. The just cut off part of the hair seems neither here nor there, I feel like it should be tighter, or a lot looser. And of course that's just my opinion

I'd like to see Mrs. EB have a tilt to the head and detail in every strand of her gorgeous hair (color). So I'd say I prefer the Katie shots, and carve out for me #3 as a more flattering pose and favorable composition.

For your wife, I'd play up all her amazing assets, the sparkling eyes, the amazing hair. Keep every detail of her face and crown in the shot.

OOF everything else.

A woman's hair is her crown and glory....
