My wife and I took this trip a couple of years ago in July. Weather was great. Crowds were available if you wanted them, but if you were willing to hike 300 yards off the road, the crowds thinned out quickly.
Our reason for going in July was so the trip would coincide with the Calgary Stampede and Rodeo. It's not your normal hometown rodeo and it's not inexpensive, but it's a lot of fun! And you can get some pretty good shots of the rodeo action if you're lower in the grandstand. You just missed this year's Stampede.
Your hiking experience and level of endurance at altitudes is going to dictate your hiking. I tended to hike with more gear than I needed. I'd used a 28-70 most of the time. Not sure why I thought I needed to haul the 50mm, 70-200mm, etc. with me. But it all came along and never came out of the bag. (Your shooting may dictate something different).
One of the easier hikes in Glacier is "Avalanche". It's not bad and there's a great reward at the end. Unfortunately it's not a loop. It's an up and back. Nice stream on the side of the trail part of the way.
At Lake Louise it's kind of fun to hike up to the tea house for lunch or for a snack. Great views of the lake from the trail. This is a busy trail, but it thins out as you go. By the time you get to the tea house there aren't that many people.
Hike around Lake Moraine is beautiful too. This is a very easy hike. More like a walk in the park.
Have fun! I have great memories of our trip.
