I wasn't expecting to see owls in the mountains this morning - it took a bit of work to get these little hawk owls. Wrong again on the ID - need to carry my birds guide with me. Thought they were pygmy owls at first.

#2 is the winner for me as well. For some reason not seeing his feet makes it look like he's very cold and all tucked up to keep warm. Nice stuff, thanks for sharing them.

I would be happy with the bear shots Jim but the owls, wow, what a treat!!! You did a wonderful job on them, they are both cute and already intimidating at the same time. Well done!!!

this is am AMAZING find. northern hawk owl is a really tough bird anywhere in its range. i have only seen it once, and i had to drive 5 hours to upstate new york to see that one bird. getting these amazing shots of the young is a really good accomplishment. just awesome!
