Hey guys I got through the first hurdle of actually recovering a bunch of lost images from my camera using REMO recovery. The file size and naming were correct when recovered. However, now my problem is that I can't open these CR2's anywhere (Lightroom, Photoshop and etc.) I have been searching for a solution but have not been successful. Again, the problem is not me not being able to recover the files, the problem is that I can't open these recovered CR2 files because I'm being prompted that they aren't the right file type which they are. Are there any programs that actually fixes the recovered but damaged CR2 file.? Again I have already recovered the files. I just can't open them.

Did you try Canon's DPP?

Sorry to hear that- I couldn't find any software for repairing damaged .CR2 files. At this point, if it is worth your trouble, you might try calling Canon tech support at 1-800-OK-CANON, or clicking here. Maybe you can send a file to them to look at.

Check the basics first: What does Windows (or Mac) show as the fully qualified filename? Calling them not the right type suggests that the recovered filenames' extensions might not be
"CR2".

I did that too. The extension shows CR2. Guess I can say goodbye to those pics? Any other suggestions?

Well, the one other thing that occurs to me might be a long shot: I've never heard of the REMO software you mention; if you still have the card, you might try Sandisk RescuePRO. I've used that successfully to recover CR2s from cards from which they'd been deleted.

Try another recovery program. I'm curious if the file sizes were reasonable because I've seen some software that created bizarre ghost files that were garbage. Also take a look at the files with a hex editor and see if they are similar to proper CR2 files.

Did you pay the $40 and find it any better than similar apps from SanDisk and Lexar for example? Are you associated with that company? Do you know who is Jiang Xiaoxia?
