I know I don't post here a great deal, but I wanted to post some photos I took from an event I attended in downtown over the fourth of july weekend. I took a lot more walking around, but these are some of the better ones.

How do you guys change style to make someone look more menacing or threatening / dangerous? This is pretty much my basic style with some minor adjustments. I tried using a different type of lighting but I'm honestly still a novice at those types of setups. It turned out okay but I honestly didn't like it as much as the ones that used natural light.

In the past I've always used specialized filters like topaz or some of the others that work as plugins. But I'm trying to get away from that because a lot of people do that today.

You want evil/threatening/dangerous, if you're using LR, start by going all the way with the Clarity slider and then take it from there.

Yeah local contrast, 'grunge' type filters, side lighting or other types of harsh lighting. I've tried all these things, but sometimes I feel like they are all commonly done to the point of being cliche.

I especially enjoy the guy from Alien, great expression! If only he'd ditch the phone...

friscoron, here's an example of the type of processing I used to do.

(before)

(after)

My concern is just that, it seems like everyone and their mom is doing this type of processing today (and often far better than I can). Sometimes I feel like the only real advantage I have is who I know and what I can get them to do in a photo, acting/expressing I mean. For example if I look at other photos of the couple above (not mine) #6 in my original post, few of them show the emotion of that one.
