Bob,

You get some great images. And thank you for the window into your thoughts on 100 strangers.

I have a thought: you say you tell people the images will be up on Flickr in "a week or two." If it were me you had photographed, and I wanted to see the image, I would think about it that day and the next and remember that it would take at least a week for it to show up, and by the time a week went by I'd have forgotten all about it, lost your card, etc etc. I wonder, if you could commit to them (and yourself!) to get the images up that day, whether you'd have better luck with people responding. Just an idea.

Thanks!
Keith

Thank you, mstenj.

Keith, that's a good idea. I have read that it's good to let pics marinate for a while, so when processing and editing, your mind is not tainted by memory of the encounter. But maybe that does work against me for maintaining relationships. Thanks for the thought.

Thanks for the blog Bob. You have boiled this down to a nice digestible system for us.

One question though: It appears you do not ask these folks to sign a release? It's sad that this has become an issues, but I would consider doing so. If someone changes their mind about allowing you to post their image, it could get messy/expensive.

For my part, on those few occasions when I do take a stranger's photograph, I am extremely careful about posting them online for this very reason. Just one more down-side to our overly litigious society.

Thanks again,

= Ed =

Interesting article. One question. Do you get a release from the subject.

Thank you for looking and commenting, nola, Ed, and jefferies.

I do not get model releases. It is enough of a challenge to get permission. If I waved a legal document in their faces, I doubt many would sign it. I wouldn't. I get the overwhelming majority of images outdoors, in public space. I never sell images - who would buy one? I use them to show here, at camera clubs, on my blog, and Flickr. I explain the blog and Flickr up front. I doubt that many know Fred Miranda I have entered a few in local and regional competitions, with mixed results.
