Rhododendrons grow tall in western Oregon.
The old guy in the pic is almost 6-feet tall. He missed the magic mark by 1/4 inch and his best buddy just made it. The old guy in the pic never got over the disappointment of not quite making six-feet, because way back when the old guy in the pic was in high school, six-feet was tall. Shucks, the old guy in the pic was tall enough that he could have played high school basketball- providing he'd had any basketball skills.
The old guy in the pic is STILL bugged by all that.
But I don't want to labor the point.

I know, the rhodies are all gone now- but this is the last "serious" pic I have in the hopper for this forum- so I'm posting it and heading to my closet to look for more.
Fibber McGee's closet ain't got nothing on MY closet.

On a good day when the gravitational pull is reduced a bit I think the 'old guy' makes his mark

At least in my mind he stands tall............

Hey Old Rhodie Guy...nice shot...seen some pretty big ones in my day..those are pretty nice. Think you've done pretty well, for not quite hitting your mark though...even if you weren't the star of the BB team.

Wow Charlie, that is one impressive group of trees. I recently visited Hawaii and was impressed with the colorful blooms there, but nothing like this! As for the primary subject of the photo, it is also of impressive size. Good luck in the closet Charlie.

Yes indeed the PNW rhodies grow to great heights, I know we have some near me in a public garden well over 20 feet high and mind blowing when in bloom. Not a bad looking old guy Charlie

I sure hope you find something, I know you will, in that closet of yours. I can honestly say I have learned a lot from your posts and I'm usually jealous of the things you have seen and experienced.

I dream of being 6'...but you can't pick your genetics...great shot "Old Man"....find some more acceptable shots for the forum...or if not find some of those fungus slides...or better yet...take some new shots.

The color here is most wonderful - it's a shot that exceeds any basketball shot. I coached for 42 years but never made the team when I was a youngster (too small and too slow are probably the reasons). I for one, would miss your photos and your humor so here's a vote for you to stick around. - RC
