That is one beautiful sunset, I am not use to seeing the city from that perspective, Shot from the air or Mercer island? On the left, I think the 2 red dots at the top of the building is Harborview hospital, My place of employment. This is really one of the most unusual and breathtaking shots of Seattle I have seen, especially since it doesn't have the iconic Mt. Rainier in the BG. Rick
It was taken from the Factoria area and the very top of Mercer Island is at the bottom of the frame (too dark to really see). I was hoping to get something unique so occasionally I'll check out new places and hope for unusual conditions.

When this came up on my screen I thought, "Wow!" It's fantastic! Superb in every way. I would love to know the technical details - camera, lens, etc. Thanks for the image.
This is a two-exposure blend taken with a Canon 5D2 and Sigma 100-300 @ 250mm.
The first exposure was taken with pretty standard settings for how much light was present. It ended up being 20 seconds at f/10 and ISO 160. The purpose of this shot was to preserve the detail in the buildings (longer exposures will blow out all the highlights) and maintain the color in the sky.
The second exposure was the one that was to capture all the cloud movement and it was taken immediately after the first. I didn't really have a way to meter the scene since there were very distinctly different brightness levels within the scene and the light was quickly dimming. I just had to ballpark a shutter speed and hope for the best. Luckily it was right on the money. This exposure ended up being 3 minutes at ISO 100 and f/14.
The two images were then hand-blended in Photoshop.

Wonderful. That is some spectacular atmosphere. The yellow in the lower band of the sky is pretty hot, so you might consider dialing back on that a bit, but the punchy blues and oranges work well. Excellent timing and nice balance of light with the city.
What you see is basically just how the image came out after doing some basic processing. Nothing was done specifically to bring up the yellows, as this was probably the most colorful sunset I've seen in at least the past year. I suppose the intensity of yellow is nothing more than a matter of personal preference and it's something I feel goes well with the rest of the image. I really do appreciate input such as this, though. Thanks.

I saw that cloud in the afternoon on I-405 and I was pretty sure if the light condition was right it could be a great sunset. Damn I hate that I didn't make it to Seattle
Earlier that day it was raining and I didn't even think there was a chance I'd be out taking pictures. But then at about 6pm, the western horizon looked like it was starting to open up a bit and I saw lots of interesting low-lying clouds hanging around the mountains. I immediately grabbed my camera stuff and headed to one of the spots I knew I could get a clear view of them from. I can certainly relate to what you're saying, though. I've missed many a good sunset.
