Great Black Hawks are awesome looking raptors and very common in this part of Pantanal. Also common are those little fish of ill repute, piranha. While I didn't fish for them myself, apparently its pretty easy to catch them. A little bit of chicken as bait and voila. You don't really reel them in but once they hit the bait you just fling them on shore!
And since I suspect photos of piranhas are pretty infrequent here I thought I would post just a few. A word of warning...when they look dead....they may not be...just sayin'
Oh, one more thing...the chef served piranha soup...I don't eat fish so I really wasn't going to have it but my wife convinced me it tasted nothing like fish....holy crap, it was delicious (albeit with a little bite to it ). It really did have a chicken like taste too it...who knew

Loving the hawk, awful kite like looking, but a marvelous shot!!!! Looks like somebody is holding on the little fishy as they didn't want it to get loose I must say that's another first for the forum Cool, fun and funny Eric!
That is one impressive looking bird, and picture to match...really nice shot. I think that's what the fish say when they get a bite of human...tastes just like chicken...scary looking pictures, certainly enough to keep me out of the water around there. Best be careful, you need those fingers.

Also the piranha images. And that second shot of the piranha is plain old awesome AND scary.
They probably taste like chicken because everyone uses chicken for bait.

Great set, Eric. There are clearly five digits on the right appendage in the first piranha shot, but it's difficult to be certain on the second. (Those are some impressive looking fish choppers). I hope all mammalian digits will be present and accounted for in part 2.
