There are some bird species that just seem to have bags of personality, amongst UK birds I'd include puffins, robins and dippers in this category.
Here are a few shots of a dipper that I took on a Scottish river in May. These are extremely heavy crops as I messed up and only had the 1.4x TC on the camera and not the 2x TC. Luckily the light was pretty good and I think they came out ok considering.

No.1 This one shows the typical habitat for these birds - they make their living by finding insects and other small critters under the water in fast flowing, shallow rivers and streams
No.3 This would have been the best shot I got but unfortunately I managed to burn out the whites. This image does show the different shades of brown in the birds plumage quite nicely though - dapper little things aren't they?
I don't believe I've seen many of these birds posted, Paul. You did a fine job on these and the setting is quite pleasing. 2 and 4 are my favorites

Fine work Paul showing the lights and darks and eye detail of this Dipper! The setting here is calming. The earth toned colors work together nicely here, nice warmth and contrast.
Great set Paul! I don't think I have ever seen a Euro Dipper before, they sure are nicer looking than ours, ours are mostly dark gray. I wouldn't have guessed these were large crops if you didn't say anything, you did a bang up job on these. Real nice work!

(I spent about 45 min chasing after a dipper and did manage to appreciate the engaging behavior, but dod not manage to capture any images). These are terrific and brought me some vicarious pleasure!

"Out west" we call dippers an "indicator species," meaning the streams where they live are generally quite healthy.
