p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · alyssa and jake: newlywed portrait session

Note: for those of you who are in the Wedding forum, please excuse the double-post.

I'd been photographing Alyssa's sister in her dancing (and senior portrait) for a couple years now, and I was booked for her wedding date, which was in Florida anyway. Even before their wedding, we had already planned on doing this shoot once they were back from Florida. I don't think they set aside as much time for portraits on their wedding day as they would have liked, so this became pretty important to them and their Mom.

The toddler is their baby. Started the shoot off at a barn behind her parent's house, then off to a park. Been pretty busy this spring, so haven't really had time to post anything here, so I'll start here with this series.

Last one is definitely my favorite, I think its a great set. Exposure is 10/10 wonderful color choices.

simply naive question (not meant to be insulting)

how much post is in them?

Thanks, Yudhi, dyno. Last one is definitely my fave as well. Kinda funny, I normally shoot with my D4 but needed to switch to my 24-70 lens for that shot while I was standing on top of a picnic bench. Wife had the D700 and 24-70, so we just switched cameras for this shot.

dyno, not a lot of post. The last shot had some bare grass patches and so I cloned those out to keep the attention on the couple. A couple of these, I add a glow effect, just my thing. I really don't consider myself to be heavy into post-processing.

Love your work Ron. My criteria for a good photograph has always been "Would I hang this on my wall for an extended length of time". Most if not all your work passes the test, this is no exception.

Very nice Ron.
Crisp and clean images.
That barn looks familiar, did you have another shoot in the snow there?

Regards
Bud

Thanks, Michael! I really appeciate your "hanging on the wall" comment. That's a high compliment.

Thanks, Bud! I'm using light more and more with every shoot, and I think it's really helping me go where I want to go with my photography.

Nope, first time using this barn as a backdrop. I did try to use another red barn as a backdrop in an e-session shot in the snow a few months ago. But that barn was small, not traditional like this one, and I didn't really use it effectively. I'm almost sorry you remember that one. Please let this one replace your memory of that one!

From memory i just remember it been red.
On the last post i only saw it in the background and in his set i see you posed them around it which i enjoyed.
That big door would have made for a nice silhouette of them as well (maybe not possible with the bushes behind it).

Were these all natural light?

Keep up the good work
Bud

Well, the first barn wasn't very attractive, had a bunch of crap around it, and it just plain didn't work in part due to the surrounding setting. I tried a few shots, and then moved on.

Pretty much all the shots at the park (the latter shots) are natural light. The ones at the barn have some fill from one or two speedlights in a softbox. On 6 and 7, she's highlighted by backlight coming from within the barn. No. 4 has a reflector just below her, you can see the catchlights.

I'm going to try to clone out the foliage that you can see through the back door in the barn shots.

The wedding portraits are always tough to do - this set is well done. Nice variation in the backgrounds which adds to the photographic quality. Your post processing is very appropriate for these images. I like the open quality of the images.

Thanks, Bob! Her expression was quite amusing: like, what's going on here?

Thanks, Tony. I really appreciate it. Definitely trying to move up to another level of shooting and processing.
