p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · D600 grip button able to mirror AE-L button on body?

Just got the Vello BG-N10 grip for the Nikon D600 from BH. The fit and finish is great, fits snug, no wiggling around at all. My question is in programming the AE-L/AF-L button.

1. Is it possible to get the grip button to mimic the body's AE-L button? Been digging around the menu and can program each discreetly... but I would prefer to just have the grip button's function mirror the body's button. i.e using it for AF-ON focusing.

As it stands now, if I wanted to use the AE-L button as an AF-ON button, I'd have to program it both in the body and the grip separately. =(

Has someone figured it out? Or is it just another one of those things from Nikon: "We're not giving you this function because this isn't a "pro" body" (much like the OK button zoom to 100% preview feature we'd all love to have).

Thanks.

I think you have to program them separately

I haven't been able to get both working at the same time. Don't think it is possible. Love being able to do that for my D700 + grip, but I guess this is one of those firmware features Nikon loves to keep out of the "non-pro" bodies, like the one press to zoom into 100%.

Works with my D7100 and Vello grip. Custom Setting Menu > (f) Controls > (f9) Assign MB-D15 AE-L AF-L button. The select AF-ON.

I have the Nikon MB-D14 grip on my D600. If you go to f9 under controls, you can assign the button from there. Not sure if the camera recognizes after-market brands.

Fast forward 2 years to today, December 5, 2015. Just bought a D7200 and have been trying to set it up all day. Could not get the battery grip to mimic the D7200 AE-L AF-L button's function to just autofocus. Googled this thread and It worked just as you said. Thanks
