Some years back I was bouncing along a dirt road through the Steens Mountains (SE Oregon) and came to a lonesome ranch.
A curious pair stopped playing together and watched me.
No doubt part of the family, this young deer and his black lab buddy were doing their best at playing interspecies tag.
I tried to teach them how to play kick-the-can, but they weren't interested.
Just joshing about the latter- but not the former .
I saw no people at the ranch house, so I couldn't find out the story of the pet deer. But he sure seemed happy and healthy.

Very nice Charlie. Do you have a shot of them together?

Thanks Birdie.
Yes, I do, and here is one. I had decided not to post it because black labs turn into black blobs so easily.
But what the hey- a birdie told me I should post it; so what could I do?
Charlie
PS- I have another and I'll take a close look at it.

Hi Charlie,

nice capture, you might want to back off the sharpening a bit

You are absolutely right, Morris.
I'll do it right now.
Charlie
It's a bit soft- but the lesser of two evils, I guess .

Charlie,
I would of loved to see both them
playing together! You are lucky to have seen and photographed them!
Sweet!

Thanks, Bee.
Yes it was an unusual and fun experience watching the two of them- with a playground that went on for many miles in every direction- and not a dwelling to be seen except where they lived.
If the deer was acquired at a very young age, it would have bonded with the people and probably the dog also.
And although black labs are hunting retrievers, if they know a new baby is accepted by the alpha humans- then it automatically becomes part of the "pack." Labs would probably nurture and play with elephants if they bonded together.
But make no mistake, an adult male black lab will defend the family fearlessly if the family is threatened.

How cool is that. Great experience for you.
I wonder if Morris was talking about noise rather than sharpening?

I've heard of this before, but still neat to hear about and see images of. Good work Charlie.

No- Morris was right.
I scan slides- so I don't really have "noise" to deal with.
But I sometimes have to deal with sharpness problems... not so much because of the slide, but because of the scan. This particular sharpness problem was because of the slide, however. Hand-held tele- and I missed it.
