p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Poppy Nostalgia

Drought has eliminated big wildflower blooms in Southern California for the past three springs.
These shots from the vault were taken in Antelope Valley in the spring of 2010.

1. Poppies only spread their petals in warm, sunny weather, but even the furled flowers carpeted the landscape on this cool, cloudy, afternoon.

2. Backlit poppies at sundown.

Yeah, no poppies this year that I ever heard of. Both are cool shots, but #2 is really nice. Good work with that.

Thanks Karl and Harsha. I'm used to seeing you guys in the Nature & Wildlife Forum, and I appreciate the nice comments from two people whose work I regularly view and respect.

Thank you, Dan. One reason we get these big spreads is we have all this flat low-land, which is really dry and nondescript right now. On the other hand, you have all those high mountains with big wet forests going all the way down to the rugged coasts, so the jealousy is two-way.
