I shot those with D4, and all shots were taken at f2.8 at variety of focal length...
This new one built like a tank externally, to be honest, I'll find out if the lens can hold up in a year or two.
I am still waiting on the USB dock, the lens out of the box is pretty sharp (I think), the AF speed is pretty snappy, some people might not like the weight of the lens (I am a big guy, I don't use any monopod unless is 400/2.8 or bigger), the lens is about 1lb heavier than 300/2.8 VR II.

Great shots Luke !
I have the previous 2nd version (HSM OS) and for anyone considering this lens but baulking at the price then the 2nd version is optically identical (Sigmas own words) but nearly a US$1,000 cheaper (and still available at many dealers).
I used this lens as my main lens on a 6 week trip to NZ and it performed just great (birds, portraits, landscapes). The Sigma x1.4 and x2 TCs are universally acknowledged as the best companions for this lens and perform very well indeed (there's a 250 page thread on this lens on POTN with some spectacular shots).
The only real negative for me was very inconsistent AF (birds). I have +14 using FoCal and you may indeed need to ensure your AF accuracy too.
Personally for birding I find the 300/2.8 and TCs much better (AF, IQ) but at a much higher price, the 120-300 is nevertheless a great lens.
I'll try to find the 100% crop of this shot of the Fox Glacier because the sharpness is outstanding even taken a few kms away as in this shot.

Thanks. I was going to try to find an old Canon 300mm f2.8 non IS off Ebay but Canon doesn't service those anymore if something goes wrong. this lens looks promising for football. I have the new Sigma 35mm as well so I could buy the dock and it would work for both lenses.

Thanks for the great pics...I have this lens shipping out tomorrow for me.
I also ordered the 1.4TC, I read on the canon forum some people using canon TC's with the lens, would this be the same for Nikon, I have the NIkkor 2.0 IIITC.

Nikon TC's don't work. The Sigmas do a nice job....the 1.4 better than the 2.0 in my experience. GL

You have to file off a lug on the Nikon TCs to get them to work with the Sigma 120-300 (5 min job but beware the filings). I did this with the TC14EII and it works just fine (this does not affect their use on Nikon lenses at all). However the IQ with the Sigma x1.4 is much better, in fact even the Kenko 300 was better. Buy the SIgma, the Sigma x2 works great too !

So for sharpness and speed is it about the same as the nikon 300 2.8??
the speed not as good as out of the box comparing to my previous Nikon 300/2.8 VR II in speed, but with the USB dock tweak, it's as fast. I'd say sharpness is very similar, the color rendering is not as good as the Nikon glasses

thats the disappointed part about it. And I don't want to pick up the Sigma tele, I assume Sigma is probably coming out with an updated tele to match their new lenses
