I've been busy shootin' the south this year and haven't had a chance to post much lately. However, I wanted to share some of my catches so far. Details below, comments welcome (esp since I was doing these on a new monitor)

Ok, now some background on the photos above for those who are interested:

#1 Lindy Point Sunset

This was taken at Lindy Point in Blackwater Falls SP, WV. First time there and they sky totally cooperated after a passing storm. Just a bit of manual blending in PS to keep the sky in check.

#2 Carter Shield's Cabin

This was in the Smokies along the Cades Cove Loop - I wanted something different than just a "dead" looking cabin shot - I really wanted it to look like someone was home with a warm fire going, ya know?

Well, I decided NOT to get arrested and used a sophisticated remote flash setup instead (i.e. my wife on the other end of a walkie-talkie pressing the button on the flash with an orate filter)

#3 - Tremont Rush

This is another from the smokies - this time the Tremont area. No big tricks here, just some blending to keep the shadow looking right and the highlights from blowing out. I did try some Orton to give ti more of a misty / moody feel (mostly applies to the background)

Really great stuff, Steve. I love your take on Lindy Point, glad the atmosphere cooperated for you! Also great idea on the cabin, and it looks like you pulled it off perfectly. You and your wife must work very well together to get the timing right!

Hey Steve,

Oh man... #1 has got to be an award winner. Such incredible sweet light in it. #2 is a super cool shot that sneaks up on you. I didn't notice the lighting at first, but once the eye catches it, the shot really takes on a whole other level. #3... you worked the water so well, you found a great composition with the water falling off the rock like that.

I like 2 and 3 here. The first is a little over the top for my tastes but that is a personal bias. I really like No. 2 the best. Great subtle light in a very natural presentation. The cabin lights add nicely.

Steve these make me realize just how much beauty there is in any given scene when done properly or with an enhancing artistic eye

I'm kinda stuck imagining being there in #1, that is gorgeous both in view and presentation, wow!
#2 I immediately noticed the nice warm glow from within the cabin, it looks and feels right in this image
#3 really nice good look in the darker areas and a nice balance for me

My first reaction was that the processing was a bit over the top. But then I realized just how much I was enjoying looking at the images and wishing that I'd done them. Good work. Gregg
