Hi People
I have been away for a few weeks walking the 200 miles solo from the West to the East shore of Northern England. The 'coast to coast' as its famously known, I'm a big fan of the UK landscape, so this journey seemed inevitable and was a celebration of my 50th birth year.
Walking from the Northern lakes through the Dales and into the heart of the Yorkshire moors to the coast at robin Hood's Bay. Every foot taking me to so many special places with my camera and tripod on my back. I had to leave the 'brick' at home, so purchased a 6D and used it with my 24-105 with my light weight carbon fibre tripod. (luggage was transported from watering hole to watering hole every day- we are very civilised in the UK having companies that do this). yes it was heavy for 10-18 mile hikes but I got fitter. I even carried a small umbrella to protect the camera while shooting in the rain. phew
As I was making images while I walked, I had to take the light as it came which was a very good exercise in making the most of the conditions, rather than chasing those golden hours. Cloud cover and mist gave me those special moments and bright sunshine gave me opportunities for graphic imagery.
Just got back today and thought i would put up a small selection of the imagery that i have been making. I'm putting together a blurb book which achieves a better flow of style and feeling than this rather incongruous set, but I wanted to show the range of imagery that I was making

Jane, I applaud for your coast to coast walk! I wish I could do just that.
As for the photos, I will pick the very first one where I see you standing with all the pride!

Jane, that's a brilliant way to celebrate, makes lot of sense to me.
Love the pictures, especially #3, with silver ribbon of the river.
Publishing a book is a great idea. I, too, started making books after each journey.

Congrats on the Journey, that sounds like an awesome idea. I wonder if a foreigner can do that journey?
#1 is my favorite, though I might suggest using selective color and changing the girls boots to another color than hot pink... At least for me it's clashing a bit with the natural colors. My other favorite is #4, a very cool and creative moody shot.

yes the coast to coast is walked by people from all over the world, so we welcome everyone.
I did train about 6 months beforehand, walking 10/15 miles each day over the weekend. You can sneak in 10 miles in about three hours early in the morning without it being too disruptive. I went walking over the winter, and the weather was awful, so I was already used to walking in the hail and rain.
If I had been much younger I wouldn't have done any training, but as I have been getting older I find it really hard to get the fitness I need without working at it.

Thanks for sharing these. I love your country and can't imagine a more desirable thing to do than to meander through the hundreds of remote villages and sights that you have. Will you do Scotland next? You've already got the outer islands. Start at Skye and end at Edinburgh. . . . please.
