I am sure this will make many here happy. The maximum # of photos per thread has been increased from 4 to 5. There has been some confusion with the Image Upload's ability to upload 5 photos even though we restricted our threads to 4 photo's. And also for some odd unexplainable reason many of you just seemed to like to post 5 photo's.

Try to hold down the dancing in the streets, though I can imagine Scott dancing around while wildly waving some chicken fingers...

Size remains the same, the only change is the change listed, an increase from 4 photos to 5 max. I should note especially for those who are really interested in C&C on their photo's, that the less photo's one posts, the more likely chance there will be detailed C&C. The more one posts, the less detailed C&C. It just seems to work out that way in general.

YO Jim may I make a suggestion? I'm sure you've heard it before but I feel this site would really benefit from small thumbnails instead of text. Just a thought. It would be really nice

And that will now become 6.

Yep, I would like to see about 1600 wide, but doubt that will happen anytime soon.

I'll have to look up the study, but there was one that indicated that right brain dominant people tended to group things in odd numbers while left brain dominant individuals tended to group in even numbers. Maybe you should have tried max of 3?

The key is it has to be a prime number

Hmmm... Interesting. There could be something to that... Boy... if we had cut it to 3, I would never get any sleep...

Thanks or clarifying the guidelines issue.

Since someone brought up the subject... as to size, and just my opinion, I would encourage people to consider posting photos no larger than what will be visible on, say, a typical laptop or tablet screen. I do understand that landscape photographs often look better big, but they also look better when we can see the whole thing! ;-)

I know this meets the desire of many members who really like to get as many of their 'shots' on the internet as possible. But, as I am typically the lone wolf opposition around here, this supports a move to more quantity and less quality. I rarely get past the second or third image in any post and just move on. Too much stuff to take in and remain able to truly enjoy anyone's creative spirit. I enjoy viewing fine art photography, one at a time. I avoid blogs, flikr, pbase, facebook, twittr, and other digital dumpsters and am sad when sites that I enjoy just get more clogged with endless similar images.

Jeffrey, I also enjoy viewing fine art photography, preferably in person and in the form of prints. Yesterday I spent a few hours in an exhibit of the work of Garry Winogrand, for example. So you are not alone in enjoying fine art photography.

One thing that strikes me, though, is that there is almost never an exhibit of a single photograph. Have you even been to such a thing? I've seen as few as perhaps a half dozen photographs hung for public display, but quite often far more than that are shown. This not only works, but in many ways, at least for those who are interested in giving some time to the process if viewing, it let's me/us see and understand the artist('s') work more thoroughly and draw connections among photographs in order to develop a sense of the person's style.

I know that you may be simply sharing a personal preference, and that is fine - we all have them. However, displaying more than one photograph in the same "space" is the norm, and displaying only a single image is the exception. (That said, the photo posts in this forum are occasionally used in some odd and sometimes transparent ways, aren't they? ;-)

Speaking of exceptions, I can partially relate to what you write about "avoid[ing] blogs, flikr (sic), pbase, facebook, twittr (sic), and other digital dumpsters," but it is possible to be more selective with any or all of these sites. For example, you can fairly easily set up facebook and the others to give you quick access to those whose work interests you most. That's how I've set things up, and I have developed friendships with folks who do the photography I like most, to the point that we now get together in the "real" world, too.

Take care,

Dan

I'm glad for the change. Most photo essays are 5 images at a minimum. Seems to be a favorite number in photo contests, for example.

Best,

I understand where Jeffrey is coming from, but my point of view is, if someone is going to post more than four or five images and expects feedback on them all, well, they'll be disappointed, however unless it's a bandwidth issue just let it be caveat emptor, or poster beware as the case may be. People photography, Nature and Wildlife and Wedding Photography all have posts with many pics in it, sometimes to the posters detriment and some to their benefit.

Context is sometimes difficult to portray in just a few photos.

Regardless I will endeavor to follow the forum rules.

Thanks for the reply, Dan. We certainly do all have our preferences! When I'm at a gallery, I view one image at a time. I am not interested in seeing the color AND black & while version, or the three or four versions that the person made in the few seconds before or after the one I'm looking at. TMI and it dilutes my experience. When I am looking at one image in a gallery, portfolio or other website that only permits a single image posted within, I am seeing what the artist decided was his final statement about what he saw. I don't want to see other versions or pre-cropped or alternate processing or any multiple choice quiz representing his lack of confidence in what he's presenting. I'm sure that there are a lot of folks that enjoy seeing all that on this forum, but not me. I'll go to the post-processing or one of the gear forums for that. We all have our own ways of appreciating art and another's creativity. I don't mind that kind of discussion when I'm at a workshop or other learning environment.

Well said.Even though I have done some of that. But then I do lack confidence, but otherwise I do see this as a presentation forum.

The maximum of 5 images per thread is just a limit, not a recommendation.
I don't think it's a problem as most threads on the Landscape Photographer board are presented with a single image.
