Picked up this lens for a very low price at the local camera store...

While it seems slow, it seems to be able to track moving people very well.

I seem to be going back to alot of the old lenses I used to own... maybe I'll pick up the 400 5.6 from Sigma Soon

I hated that Sigma. Even a crop from the 70-200 gave me a sharper image.

I've got a 70-210 f4...i love it...small, light, does the job i need it to!! I used to have a 70-200 vr1, but it was too big, so i sold it and got a 70-210 and an 85 1.8...the 70-210 isnt the fastest focuser ever, but it's sharp (enough), and the rare times i need it , it's there...just wish the front element didnt move during focusing...

I like mine as a travel lens along with an 18-70. The 70-210 is not useful for moving subjects that I shoot. but it is good otherwise. I think it was only made for one year and was replaced by the more common 70-210 f4/5.6.

Great lens! I've got a 70-200 VRII that I mostly use, but the 70-210 can hold it's own just fine. I love using it with my FE2.

I had a mint 70-210 f4 AF for several years---used it wide open for shooting people (mostly women)---just a little soft wide open made it good for this purpose---women loved the look. Bought a 70-300 AF VR lens and found that I was just not using it anymore---sold it to help pay for a 70-200 VR---still a handy lens...

before the 70-300mm vr, I was looking into this lens for my D70s. I just didn't like the idea of buying a dx telephoto (e.g. 55-200, 50-300), and i wanted something a little faster anyway.

that said, reports of softness just killed it for me (that, and i didn't like the idea of the push/pull zoom).

now with my D600, I got the 70-300mm vr used. if you're gonna get a used telephoto, yes, the 70-210/4 is cheaper, but the 70-300vr is not that expensive. plus you get vr, af-s, added range and a sharper lens, albeit at the cost of aperture and dollars. me thinks that was a good enough trade-off.

I think the f4/5.6 is push-pull, the f4 is not.

I had a 70-210 f/4 for a little while. I was impressed with the mechanics and image quality, but it didn't focus fast enough and wasn't compact enough when compared to my 80-200 2.8 2-ring to keep.

I like the 70-210 F4 lens. It's small, compact, and though slow, can produce great results. I am already on my third copy. Every time I sell it, I end up buying another one.
