The specs quote it as heavier than a 500 f/4L IS mk II and 700g+ heavier than the 300 f/2.8L IS, and 1.7kg heavier than a 70-200 f/2.8L IS mk II. Yikes. That has really soured me to that lens for now, but if the reports with TCs are stellar I may consider it down the track, especially when price drops as it alwys does on the Sigmas. Heck the just superseded model could be found for $2300 quite easily.
Wow, that's heavy! 300 2.8 IS is bad enough as it is. And man prices are getting steep. That used to be the price of the Canon and the Sigma used to be half that price.

With the Canon 2xTC III the results are very very good. AF remains fast and accurate, only low light was shooting Wiener dogs at Dusk. Post In the Alt Forum bare and with the 2x.
Sounds good, although nothing can be told from the samples other than the overall contrast seems pretty rich. (anything looks sharp downscaled to 1/8th MP )
If anyone is interested, I have the last version of the 120-300 which I understand is optically the same as the SPORT. I am posting some comparisons in the 200-400 Impressions thread.

Hey, Dennis!! The combo mounted, fits perfectly in the Tenba LL-400 I had the last version w/metal
screw in hood vs. the plastic POS. Trust the new is indeed an improvement in that regard as well.
I'll check out that Tenba Will! Yeah, no plastic on this one. It's a tank!
PLEASE post some field sports with this. Soccer, Lacrosse etc. I've always read that focus tracking was the weak point of this lens (at least the previous versions).
Could someone tell me the tax in the USA and or Canada works? For example the price quote here at $3600 is matched numerically in the UK at £3600. The UK price includes VAT at 20%, but if you take both prices at face value it looks like UK buyers are being completely screwed.

Stu,
Here in the states, in almost all instances, the listed price is the net price to the retailer. Applicable taxes are based on the sales price and are charged in addition to the sales price. So a $1,000 lens sold in an area with a 10% sales tax rate would cost the consumer $1,100.
I agree that the practice of numerically matching prices in dollars and pounds is unfavorable for UK buyers.
Back to the topic of the lens- it's looking pretty darn good based on the limited samples so far. Looking forward to Jason's input next week for wildlife use.

Thanks Mitesh The real killer is the 20% VAT here. I think its even higher in some Scandinavian countries. From what I've seen the Sigma still seems like good bang for buck when compared to the horrendously priced 200-400L. I think its a real contender for my ££'s

Excellent samples! Very promising! It has me thinking, whether I should sell off my Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS II. Awaiting Jason's results for wildlife photography with the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 OS Sport.
The bokeh looks fabulous. Only worry is the weight and whether the AF is up to the challenge for BIF.

The images sure does look excellent and I really like the bokeh. The weight is a bit on the heavy side IMHO, but how is the balance and weight distribution/handling?

In Canada you will fork out extra 12% - 15% on top of your retail price depending on province you buy from
Lens does look very tempting to me at this time as well but I have to wait and see what review will say before committing.
