On saturday I got up at 2am and headed to Minniwanka because of the prospect of northern lights. Alas I stood in the dark at 3am and did not find any northern lights.

So then I went driving looking for grizzly bears.

I found one just after Morant curve but she wanted to walk down the road and not pose. I was worried for her safety around the corner so I passed her and turned back (to get her off the road and get a front shot). At that time CanadaJim showed up and I think I accidently ruined his shot by moving my car and she went up in the bush.

Anyway Jim and I looked up and down the road until I ran out of steam and went home to sleep.

Here are my best pictures before she disappeared in the bush.

I actually like that shot from behind. I like the others as well, but having a hard time choosing if I like one over the other. I guess #3 because you're not seeing the road in the shot, but #4 is good pose. I guess it's a good reason not to pick up hitchhikers. Some consolation...hope to get to see some scenery like that.

sritri: Two Jack Lake is a great spot. To the right is of this view is a campsite. It does not get much better than waking to this view.Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

ScottHM: I am not a big fan of the road but she was not very cooperative. Interestingly, just 30 minutes later a pedal bike peddled by this spot. I followed the biker for a while just to make sure he got past but did not tell him that we were likely being watched. Glad you like the pictures. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

ckcarr: Forlorn - she was mad at me because she wanted to go west and I was in the way. She huffed when I passed her but I did not want her walking up a blind curve into CanadaJim's car (I did not know the next car would be CanadaJim) but was concerned. You come and visit and I will take a picture of the hug

2 AM? wow.i didnt even do that for steelhead fishing...ha nice shot of the grizz looking back..so sharp, nice colors. the bear has a beautiful coat and looks healthy. nice work as always scott. heading to tonquin valley some time in july..will keep you posted bill

Scott, what is wrong with you Albertan wimps? One of you is supposed to act as bait for the other guy. Other than that you should be using some BC salmon.

What is the name of the mountain? Great shots.

Imagemaster: I was the wimpy one. I got out and he came too close for my 600 and instead of hanging out with him I got back in the car. CanadaJim was so disgusted with my cowardice he could not get off a shot.

You should have a little blog. I like your photos as much as knowing the small stories behind them. We were teased in Virginia a little while back with some northern lights, but did not see any. Always good to get out! You certainly had a nice location for the northern lights - next time...
