p.1 #1 · Canon refurbished cameras - why the price jump

DOH!!!!!!!!!! NEVERMIND.... went to the retail site and not the refurbished site...

BUT, for those of you who visit the Canon site often, is this more of a timing thing and that when you catch the prices low or on sale? I know things go quickly.

I would love some insight from those who do this more often than I do.
thx

Purchase a lens bag, hood, battery or something else cheap; from the Canon website/store and you'll get on their direct mailing list. You'll start getting emails near every week about specials on retail gear and sales. Pricing on refurbs does change, usually around holidays or special events, so you just must actively watch store pricing and stock. When I'm looking for something to buy I'll check the refurbs once or twice a week, otherwise just when i think to do so.

Last year; summer, I'd set my mind on getting the 100L to replace my non-L and looked near everyday for a good price on a refurb; they're out of stock mostly. It happened in late December and got the 100L for just under $750 delivered. It's a sweet bit of glass, it was in pristine condition and looked new when it arrived. I've purchased refurbs before and bought with confidence.

Just keep lookin, sometimes they'll surprise you with a killer low price, jump on it quick or you'll miss getting one; many are doing the same thing...watching/waiting to pounce

I don't visit the site unless there is a sale going on. I find the best way to keep up on the best prices is to use the "latest Canon & Nikon news" on thedigitalpicture.com (I have a web clip / feed of just that portion on my mac dashboard...not sure if win 7/8 has a similar feature) and deal sites like techbargains.com or dealcatcher.com

Canon price watch has a signup page that will send you a e-mail when the price of a new or a refurb drops below your target value.

During a refurb sale, things are restocked and sold out again in a few minutes or hours. Some never realize this happens because they check occasionally and it always seems to be out of stock.
