Hi, I was up early again this morning and headed out to a spot I scouted yesterday. The weather has been testing me as of late and this morning was just stormy. Wind and rain greeted me as I pulled up to the parking lot about 100m from this old dock. I had to wait for the rain to stop before getting out and even though the sun peeked out for a few minutes these were my favorite shots. I made some horizontal compositions but the sun was way to the left and it did not look good. I guess I will have to come back to this spot in december when the sun will rise aligned with the dock. Such is life in landscape. Nevertheless I always try to make a good image no matter the conditions. Today it stayed dry enough for me to setup the rig and shoot away. Focus was super tricky. I might have been off just a tad, not really sure, but detail is still awesome. I tried using tilt and no tilt don't recall if these particular files have some but I know I used f22 just in case and to get a longer exposure. Camera was level and I just shifted the back up about 8mm to get more of the dock in the frame. I think I prefer the Color image although the Black and White should look awesome in print. What do you guys think?
Thanks! I did a bit of tweaking on the Color version. The Lens Cast Correction was a tad too heavy on the exposure correction at the edges so I toned it down a bit.
Thanks! Funny thing is I am standing on a new dock. This is an old makeshift dock that miraculously was left there even though the new dock was built almost right up to it. It's a natural reserve too. Usually the government cleans everything up! Oh well. Hope it remains there for years to come. Using the TPE app I saw that the sun will be aligned with the dock around september so I will head out then for a sunrise. I generally do not love vertical shots but really liked this one. With the sun aligned I am gonna try a horizontal composition as well.
Of note is that the place is mosquito heaven (or hell) and I was swarmed at sunrise like I have never been. (well Hiking above The Loop on Glacier National Park was close).
Also I think I might have screwed up the focus with the tilt although I shot at f16~f22 so that helped me get a good result.
Just got the SNAPi tilt calculator app and did some tests at home to dial focus in. Works great.
