p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Too Slow

This county road runs perpendicular to a highway I travel on twice a day, every day. It is easy to miss, and that is exactly what I have done for the past four years. Only after a quick run for some junk food did I finally see this sign taken over by the vine (must have been trying to get a crick out of my neck). I don’t fully understand my fascination with the sign, but think there is some irony to be found?

A color version can be seen here:

Thanks for looking, and comments/critiques always welcome.

Byron

Saw your color post of the 30MPH sign as well. Really like these shots. I guess that plants here travel faster than people.

Lyle – Thank you. Not much going on down that road. I believe the cotton was harvested a few weeks ago, but the dust has long since settled.

Thanks so much Davor. I have always enjoyed photographing “lonely roads” and this one was no exception. It is not far from the populous, but it continues to be fairly unnoticed and thus unused. I enjoyed capturing this seemingly isolated /lonely place as cars were zooming by behind me on a highway.

As far as the color shot is concerned, I understand your sentiment. The color photo may “ruin” the atmosphere established in the mind. It is however a much different take on the place, one that is more fun, and is not simple the same photo in color.

Thanks AJ. #1 is by far my favorite too.

I have to mirror AJ's comment - I like all of them but the first one just "feels" good. Nice work!

Thanks Daniel. They are completely different. I think the color is just lighthearted fun, and the b&w has a soul.

Byron...I love all three, and the b/w is the way to go. It's amazing how the most seemingly mundane subject can become an enjoyable image. Good eye...nice work.

Thanks Al. I have always enjoyed trying to take something more ore less ordinary and present in a way that was somewhat more than ordinary (this used to be at the bottom of my signature). I don’t know if it is because I am attracted towards these mundane objects, or if it is simply due to the fact that most of my surroundings are mundane. I think it is the former.

Thank you so much. I am thrilled that you found it pleasing.
