Two images of Emily, my best friend (who also just won the title of "Miss Southeast Michigan").

This is my first post on the board. The images could use a little touch-up. But, let me know what you think.

Apologies if anyone saw the "block HTTP_REFFER" images instead of the real images of emily.

The shots are fantastic. I'm just now experimenting with B/W and the bottom shot shows good skin tone. What filter, if I may ask, did you use to create the B/W shot?

She has such a beautiful smile. You have captured her well. I like #2 more. Good job.

The second one gets my vote hands down. She's beautiful when photographed naturally.

I've used a technique that Greg Gorman (http://www.greggormanphotography.com/) uses. It's the best black and white technique you will ever find (and of course the web doesn't show it quite as well as possible different monitors, etc. etc.)

So, here is my naughty little secret: http://www.designbyfire.com/000100.html
an action download: http://www.designbyfire.com/pdfs/Carr_B&W.atn

Try playing with the layer opacity for different photographs.

Also, I just got my Acute2 light set up, I'll post some more shots from that. Emily and I have an appointment to do some test shots pretty soon.

Perhaps your monitor is calibrated a little differently than mine, but it looks perfect in PS with the right profile, etc.

Noel,

The photos are nice, but I'd say they're too "normal". IMO the lighting is not interesting enough to keep the attention on the photos...

Well, sometimes you take what you get when you shoot outdoors. With a reflector and a cloudy sky (fast moving clouds) this was the best I could pull off.

What would you have done to make the lighting more interesting?

Just another comment. I've been experimenting with GIMP's adaptive contrast and (will not show here) it makes the B/W image even more enriched. Gives the image dimensionality (which is why I like B/W in the first place). If you like, I'll email you (that is noeljackson only) the result. I do not know if anyone else has experimented using this technique. Coupled with Neatimage (for noise reduction), it really (at least to my mind's eye) make B/W stand out.
