I got ThinkTank StreetWalker (the basic model, #TT474) as a gift last week. I've have been using a LowePro MiniTrekker for quite a few years now, and only recently have I gotten to the point where all my gear doesn't fit in it. So while I wasn't really in the market for another backpack, per se, I certainly don't mind the extra storage space.
My confusion, though, is about the size and shape of the interior of the bag. With the MiniTrekker, it always seems like I can make a shape with the dividers that works with just about any sized item. Flashes, 50mm, filters, small zooms, larger zooms, they all just seem to fit, and be held in place very snuggly.
With the TT, even with a beefier lens like the 14-24, the fit is much more awkwardly. A 50mm is tiny compared to the depth of the bag, and I feel like it has a good chance of moving around a lot in the bag. I haven't even figured out a good way to fit a 24-120 with the lens hood on (backwards).
I can see on the insert that came with the bag that these kinds of things look like they should fit, but I just can't make it happen. What am I doing wrong?
I used to have the Mini Trekker, then like you got the TT Streetwalker. I had the same issues you described. At the time, I had a 300 f2.8 IS on a 7D, which was a good fit for the bag. Once I sold the that lens/camera body, the bag was sold as well. Now I use the TT Streetwalker Hard Drive model, which for me is much more configurable.
