I could see what the message means. I wonder if what they are afraid of is cookie cutter Mcmansions and stripmalls and a generic shops etc.. destryoing the ambience/vibe of the city.

I have seen it happen in some areas where an entire area is bulldozed over and what made the place cool/unique/historical + ambience is out the window.
