My "absolute minimum" is two bodies, 24L, 50L and 85L in a shoulder bag. I've actually done that. If i know my location, natural light doesn't scare me.

My "normal" full-day kit (core) is two bodies, 7 lenses, 2 flashes & 2 stands. Outside of typical accessories (gels, cards, etc.), I've never felt I needed more. 1 Pelican/TTAS case. Done.

My absolute minimum ís basically my normal full day kit. It consists of:

- 2 FF camera's (for now a 5D & 5DII, planning on buying a 5DIII later this year)
- 24-70L
- 70-200 f2.8 II
- 100L macro
- Sigma 50 f1.4
- 430EX
- 580EXII
- extra batteries, memory cards etc.

I use a Sun Sniper double harness and a TT belt system to carry this stuff around. I also take 2 light stands, 2 flash umbrella's, Elinchrom Skyports triggers, a Sunbounce Mini reflection screen ánd my OM-D + set of prime lenses as a backup system. I usually leave all this stuff in my car unless I need them....

I would love to shoot one with just an x100s. The next request I get where they have no money, I'll suggest it.

I wanted to shoot black and white film and mix between medium, large and some 35mm. I made a blog post and said I wanted to do this and would give a nice discount for someone that would like this. I said no digital at all and no color.

I got someone to bite and then after the word got out I was booking normal priced packages with film and black and white.

DO it man. Someone will love it.

Take...? Everything + the kitchen sink...! (I have a big car and a nervous disposition).

Need...?

2x 5D3's
5D2 spare
70-200 f2.8 Mk2
70-200 f2.8 Mk1 spare
24-70 f2.8 Mk2
24-70 f2.8 Mk1 spare
2x '580 Mk2 Flash
2x '580 Mk1 Flash spares
80mm f1.2
50mm 1.2
35mm 1.4
16-35mm f2.8
10x 8GB CF cards
2x 128GB SD cards
6 batteries
Enough (?) AA batteries

These are with me / very close by / attached to my assistant.

In the car is a 2-head, Lencarta Li-Ion Safari light bag, tripod, monopod, soft box for Lencarta and also '580.

(To be honest there is usually more in the car + laptop, but I don't want to sound like I'm overloaded... ha).

I carry 2 bodies with 24-70 and 70-200 lenses with one body attached to a '580 and Lumiquest - hanging precariously from a BlackRapid twin strap.

By the time I was at the peak of my career (i.e. last year, I've since retired due to health) I was shooting two FF bodies with a 16-35 on one and a 50mm or 85mm on the other. Both with flash and two off camera flashes. I could probably have shot a gig without the 85mm if pushed. I don't do church weddings and can make a 50mm really sing.

Just shot a wedding yesterday and only used my 50mm. 48 guests and no bridal party. Just the bride and groom. It was wide enough to capture the scene and long enough to get in tight when needed. I did take my normal bag with me but never pulled anything out. I didnt even use flash.

Never shot a wedding with that small number of guests. And never shot a wedding with no bridal party. Sounds nice.

Most of my bridal parties are four, five, or six on each side. I think I've only had one or two weddings with less than 100 guests.

I could shoot most weddings totally comfortably with just:
D3S, 35, 85, 2 flashes, radio triggers, and a tall light stand.

obviously I need backups though, one extra body, 2 batteries, one extra flash, and a 50mm would be the bare minimum I'd have as backup, but if it's staying in the car why not go with much more?

I've been seeing more and more weddings with 50-75 guests and just the bride and groom. I have 6 this year that's only bride and groom.

Not me. I've used the D3S and it's a very nice camera but lens selection is way too limited. No wide-angle lens. Nothing long.

Have you retired from all paid shooting or just from weddings?

He said "most" weddings, not "all" weddings. I agree that a 35 and 85 is a good combination, and those are what I use the most. What I actually stuff in the back of my Grand Cherokee:

D4 & D800
Sigma 35 1.4
Nikon 85 1.4
Nikon 70-200VR (Useful when relegated to the back of the church)
Nikon 24-70 (Rarely gets used since acquiring a 35mm)
Nikon 105VR 2.8 Macro
SB-910's + lightstands + umbrella's
Einstein + VML
Tripod

It's hard for me to understand the point of the original poster's question. I take the same gear to every wedding.

And on a side note ... I've been shooting all primes and I don't shoot 35 or 85.

We're a team so between the two of us:

5D3 x2

My lenses:
24L II
50 1.4
85L II
135L

My 24L hardly leaves my camera as I'm obsessed with vast landscapes in the posed shots I do, and I just love that lens.

Her lenses:
24-70L
70-200L

Phottix Atlas II x 4 (light reception with four OCF) triggered by two Strato II on camera.

Two Octodome 16" NXTs (these things are fantastic for lighting posed shots and are really easy to handle in high wind as we shoot in the desert a lot)

Two extendable/retractable handles with 1/4 thread mount to attach the Octodomes

Two 8' stands for reception flashes

Four hand-made flash clamps to stick flashes in random places

That's the heavy duty stuff, plus an assortment of batteries, cards, laptop, etc.
