Guys quit your belly aching! Adobe is betting you need them more than they need you and that you will blink first and buy their package. There is a simple solution here. If sales drop big time for all Adobe products for 1 or 2 quarters, there will be layoffs, and a big change in attitude. The question is are you willing to stand the pain it will take to change their attitude towards you. My guess and theirs too is no you can't or won't. If profits fall, the stock market will help you take care of Adobe's attitude...trust

The one catch many don't realize is although some said they aren't switching to cloud they still added to Adobe's sales by purchasing CS6 or upgrading to CS6. Thus even if a person boycotts the cloud if they bought or upgraded Adobe still made sales. People may be willing to stand the pain but for some only after a feasting of CS6. 1 upgrade on PC and one package for the Mac. Needless to say I had some desert by adding some CS6 plugins, but now I am stuffed and will be good for a long awhile. Someday I may see a need to buy into the cloud but not for now, but I am sure I didn't cause Adobe any drop in profits.

Too bad so many of us have developed workflows and creative strategies that depend in the familiar Photoshop environment. I'm sure Adobe is counting on the strength of that comfort zone to keep us reeled in. I wonder how many of the important features that we rely on in PS are patented and protected? It's all a marketing/profit game.

It is funny you say this because I have been using more and more other software. I do use the TK actions, but other than blending and such, I use the Nik software quite a bit. I had LR4, but only to catalogue my files...

I am sure that Google is working on something. I did download the Capture One trial..

CS6 forever!

Though there's going to be a time when that will not work very well.
Computers are 'too new' to run Windows 8, and CS 6 might not be compatible with windows 9.

New cameras. Of course you might be able to convert to DNG or in other ways make a RAW file that CS6 can read. But then there's fillsize and picture size. In 5 or 10 years I supose the images are much bigger. Can CS6 do that? Probably it can. But probably to slow.

For me it's going to be CS6 for a loooong time though.
And then hopefully there will be competition.

But of course. If enough people are doing like I am planning I suppose ripkoken will be right.

Only problem is that Adobe CS actually are getting better and better. So of course people will start to drool over the new versions.

From what I have seen on the next version, - I can easily live without it!

Google (and Microsoft and very few others) have a size where they actually might be able to do it.

I would love Google to do it, - but that will more than likely be cloudbased too.

Adobe will back step on this at some point. After profits tank, Adobe will release a statement like: "Now back by popular demand Adobe is pleased to announce that Photoshop will be offered in both the original CD version along with the Cloud version."

It will be like Coke replacing itself with New Coke. Soon after the "new" drink appeared on store shelves the original Coke lovers stopped buying Coke altogether. Anyway, heads will roll at Adobe.

And hopefully fire the bean counter that started all of this......

Actually, the bean counters at big advertising firms, marketing firms, etc. love the rental model- because those expenses can be deducted from the bottom line in the year they were expensed. So if you spend $240 for renting the software, $240 is included in the expenses for that year.

While in the old model buying a copy of Photoshop is considered a capital expense and the only a part of the expense was deductible in the first year. This whole thing is called depreciation. For example, if a copy of Photoshop cost $600 (and since software is considered a 5 year property), the accountant can take a deduction of $60 in the first year, $120 in years 2,3,4,5, and $60 in year 6 after the purchase.

You probably know more than I do, but I think for most businesses there is room for accelerated depreciation allowing a full write off in year one - at least that's true for me as a sole proprietor. Still not a reason for me to spend $240/yr for software that would normally work out to $5-8 per month for me ($199 upgrade / 24 to 36 months)
