p.1 #1 · Curious about your opinion on Nikon repairs explanations!

Just out of curiosity i wonder what you guys think about how Nikon deals with their explanations of repairs and billing?

I worked in the car industry for a long time. We always tried hard to explain to customers exactly what the trouble was, what we had to do to repair or replace the problem part(s), and where and how their money was being spent.

Normally if this was not explained to the customer it would leave somewhat of a bad taste in their mouth about the repair experience. I know whenever i'm on the other side of the counter i want a thorough explanation of what was wrong and where my money was going. Transparency to me is everything.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not insinuating that the service from Nikon is terrible, as i've had some wonderful experiences. In fact my last repair was over and above with Nikon replacing a lens instead of repairing.

What frustrates me is getting a bill for hundreds of dollars with rather cryptic explanations most customers would ever understand.

Do any of you feel the same way or are you ok with how Nikon handles this matter?

When I get the final explanation, then I can answer in detail. As of this moment, not satisfied with the lack of information as to status of my currently in house 500mm and 1.4 TC. 500mm is under warranty. TC is not. I have approved and paid for repairs on the TC without ANY explanation.

9 out of 10 times the "explanation" is impact damage which most customers say is not the case as they have taken good care of their equipment. BBB gives Nikon service a huge "F". You're better off finding an authorized service center rather than sending it to Nikon Inc.
