Sorry to dig up an old-ish post, but- I also love the EVF on the X100S for dialing in correct exposure quickly, for example, strongly backlit subjects. Any Canon camera with live view can do the same thing. Turn on live view, dial up or down to suit your subject, and Presto- you've got the correct exposure setting without test shots and chimping! This simple trick really helps to speed things up. Of course, it works best with Auto ISO turned off.

Plus, the VF-4 has a distinctive electronic undertone, never letting you forget it's an EVF.
That is my single biggest gripe about EVF. I hate the EVF so much after using one for a year, sold off the EM5 and stuck to the good old fashioned OVF.

The VF-4 is one of the best but still pretty much a grin 'n bare it situation for me. I was really gong-ho until I actually used it for a few months. If I'm using a 17mm prime on my M43 cameras I always use the VF-1, a clip-on bright line OVF. It's so much clearer than even the best EVF and a lot smaller. And plus I don't have to constantly disable the distracting overlays and silly flashing icons 'n crap. But I like using the wee half frame Pens so EVFs go with the territory.
