Still from the so-called swinging bridge, long exposure produced much silky and heavier looking Yosemite Falls.
What I noticed afterwards was the clouds above the falls moving upwards as if the Falls splashed them away.

I posted this in response to Andrew Thomas's comments on my earlier photo, "Yosemite Falls from Swinging Bridge",
but as I indicated before, I am posting it here again as a new thread.

BTW.. I am female.

Very cool looking shot, Rhee. Love the swirly motion of the clouds.

Kee,

I love the comp and the cloud action is amazing. I only wish though it wasn't blown out. the clouds really lost color throughout, hopefully you can blend multiple exposures because I think its an excellent photo.

Ya, I agree with you. A little bit shorter exposure time would have made it different. Perhaps PP can take care of it later though.

Hi Kee,

This is a very cool shot. The cloud action looks like a giant wave crashing over the falls. For some reason, the blown out part of the clouds don't bother me that much. Nicely done.

Maybe give it a go as black and white?

Yes, I re-worked from Raw file, then converted to Black and White.

Hey Kee,

A super cool composition, I really like the shape of the clouds. I like #1, but I do agree with Jason though that the blown out clouds hurts what could have been a super shot. Checking your histogram for blown highlights is something you should do every time you set up for a new composition.

As for the shots, to me, your #1 shot is the best, both #2 and 3 look soft. Perhaps when you edited them you forgot the final sharpening for the web?

One way to try and save the blown highlights in the clouds now is in Photoshop, select the blown out areas with the Color Range tool, feather the selection, make a layer mask. Then on the bottom layer go to Levels Adjust, and adjust the slider for the Output Levels: at the bottom from 255 to say 245 or so. You will see the whites in those areas will get a little darker and start to match the rest of the whites in the clouds.

Jim
