I think most of us get the long exposure. More to Charlies point is the trend to turn any water fall into a cotton-candy look. Some like it more than others. I think it is overdone, not unlike HDR effects. The use of shutter speed to control the texture of the water is a great tool, but when there is no "energy" in the water, it doesn't convey the power of the scene very well. It also makes the water or clouds get blown out as it concentrates the features into a white "blob"
I recently got a Lee Big Stopper and found the effect too much for most scenes. The point here is the tools for controlling an image, like hi-ND filters or HDR, should be used in the measure that best enhances an image. I think it is too much for this scene
I actually like image #1 the most with the exception of the falls texture. I like the balance and feel off it. But in this first image it isn't so dominate to ruin it or blow out the highlights
YMMV.
