That's a nice one. I like how using that focal length, the people and cars are barely discernible.

HI Kee, I really like the top two thirds.....the few grasses in the foreground don't have enough interest for me but I know it meant losing the nice reflection to keep them in the image (unless you walked into the water!)
I do like the SS on the water, not something we see too often on these falls!
cheers Andrew

Great shot! That's not really swinging bridge right, the shot was taken farther to the south east?

The bridge was wooden like boardwalk, but people told me that it was the swinging bridge.

Kee,
The first shot is okay to me- but the second shot has much better balance and composition.
I really like it.
I'm assuming the lack of sharpness (as posted) is intentional. A trend that I don't understand

No, he shot it with a 65 second exposure. I assume with the intention of getting the falls to look like that and maybe he wanted a smooth river. That would be the cause of the lack of sharpness in in foliage.

Second shots works better for me, seems to concentrate on the drame in the scene.
Having said that both are great images.

The water levels must be very high there right now. I agree with Andrew on the grasses. Even if you cropped them out, you would still have a terrific image.

Kee,
Lovely composition. I like the first shot more because of the reflections. The grasses add to the interest as it makes me feel that I am right there amongst the weeds.

I think most of us get the long exposure. More to Charlies point is the trend to turn any water fall into a cotton-candy look. Some like it more than others. I think it is overdone, not unlike HDR effects. The use of shutter speed to control the texture of the water is a great tool, but when there is no "energy" in the water, it doesn't convey the power of the scene very well. It also makes the water or clouds get blown out as it concentrates the features into a white "blob"

I recently got a Lee Big Stopper and found the effect too much for most scenes. The point here is the tools for controlling an image, like hi-ND filters or HDR, should be used in the measure that best enhances an image. I think it is too much for this scene

I actually like image #1 the most with the exception of the falls texture. I like the balance and feel off it. But in this first image it isn't so dominate to ruin it or blow out the highlights

YMMV.

Sorry, I don't mean to be contentious, but that's not from Swinging Bridge. It's from the walkway in Cook's Meadow (I think it's Cook's Meadow). Just so other people don't go to the real Swinging Bridge and expect that scene.

I am glad to have a confirmed information who knows Yosemite well, like you Phil.
Yes, it was in Cook's Meadow. And the boardwalk like wooden bridge staying low. I also checked Swinging Bridge and it looks different from where I was shooting. Apparently I got the name wrongly informed.

Thanks.
