I'm confused a bit because the building opposite seems to be part of the fort complex (judging from the matching railings)- but its alignment just doesn't look "fort-like."
Are those barracks across a courtyard? Or

since the fort is on a point on north end of San Francisco, the fort is sort of triangular, and hence the strange shapes and views.
the view across contains officers quarters on the 2nd floor (where I was), while the third floor is quarters for enlisted men.
this is a great place to shoot, although way too popular with too many folks walking about.
