p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · First senior portrait session

Been working hard on learning my portraiture. Finally got a chance to do a senior portrait session. Let me know what you think of my first one. Thanks!

Josh, always enjoy your work and this is no exception. However, the angle of your subjected kinda hunched over sitting on the tailgate of his truck makes his legs look shorter. I'd recommend tossing that one (8). Any reason the football is flat in 1? Not so sure about the lighting on 3. Faves here are 4, 5, 7 and 10. Great job!

Thanks Ron. I agree on the comments thanks. Yeah the ball is a little flatter than I like up front now that I'm looking at it. IT was supposed to be him squeezing the ball flat. I forgot this shot that kind of explains how the ball got that way lol

Very nice. While it's your first senior, I'm guessing you may have clicked the shutter a few times before because you seem to know your stuff ;-) One thing that impressed me right away, is that you got some really nice smiles from him and this dude has a great smile. I know that guys in general don't like to smile and only want to give the tough look (which BTW he does well also, not over the top). I also particularly liked the light and background in #3. The flattened ball in 1 is a little odd for me as well, even with the updated squish shot. The other small suggestion I had, was that in all the shots, he fills just about the same amount of space in the frame. For example I see some possibilities to get a nice wide view, to mix it up a bit, like a nice wide view of the stadium, with a little guy - or even #6, could you have gone wider there, or was there too much other stuff around (Oh and I might spend a few minutes cloning out whatever that red thing is in the BG).

Thanks for sharing

Same fav's as Ron - 4, 5, 7 & 10. These turned out well.

The first two show him very small in the frame. I guess you were trying to include the other elements, like the NG. Still, some inward cropping could help.

#5 is good as is. Crop some off the bottom to minimize the expanse of coat down there. You'll find some of the attention then shifts back to his face.

#6. Something red behind the truck should be cloned out. Lots of empty space above him should get you thinking about a different crop.

#7 Great expression in this one.

Thanks guys, yeah the squished football isnt working for me anymore either lol. And I didnt notice the red cornhole board so thanks for that. Its funny on the smiles because I had him give his serious look and he looked like he would kill someone. It was a good fierce lineman look but smiles were better. We just made fun of his sister a few times and got him nice and loose, thats how I got 7.
